The District-Seven banner is in the hands of four very good football teams as we head to the PIAA quarter finals, is there a chance for the WPIAL to win all four state titles? I say yes, though it will certainly be very tough. Pretty good shot I think, for all four teams from District – Seven to be at least playing in Hershey during the final weekend of the Pennsylvania high school football season. Let’s go PIAA Big Game Hunting!AAAA PIAA Quarterfinals:
North Allegheny Tigers (13-0) vs State College Little Lions (8-4)

Just like it was in the inaugural Interstate Girls Volleyball All-Star Match in 2010 between these two superbly talented squads, Sunday afternoons match would require the dramatic "short game" to decide the winner at Girard High School.Last year the Ohio All-Stars rallied from the brink of elimination after trailing 2 sets to none to win the match 3-2. Again this year the Western Pennsylvania All-Stars took the lead with a 25-23 victory in the first set. After four weeks of somewhat predictable and at times thrilling football, the Highway to Heinz has officially been shut down to allow four teams to celebrate and parade around with their new golden crowns. Two teams defended their titles from a year ago (with one of them successfully defending for a third straight year) while one team celebrated their first title since 2008 and the other winning gold for the first time in 47 years. Third time is the charm for Aliquippa’s Mikal Hall as a last-minute drive gives the Quips a 14-7 victory over Jeannette in the Class AA championship game.

It was the 14th WPIAL title in school history, still the most ever. It came in the Quips’ centennial season, one which saw them go undefeated for a 12th time during the...

When Clairton coach Tom Nola said before the season Tyler Boyd could be the best player he ever coached, it did raise a few eyebrows, especially considering the school’s storied gridiron history.
Now that the 6 feet, 1 inch junior’s talents were on display on the grand stage of the WPIAL Class A championship game at Heinz Field, that claim may be moving closer to being true.
Boyd carried the ball 12 times for 141 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead Clairton to a convincing 42-6 win over previously undefeated Sto-Rox. The victory gives the Bears their fourth straight WPIAL...
