Last year, Deer Lakes halted the three year Class AA boys volleyball title reign of Ambridge while the song remained the same for North Allegheny as the Tigers captured their fifth consecutive Class AAA crown. NA and DL are joined by 12 other teams in each classifications postseason tournament which begins with opening round action Tuesday, May 15th.

#1 North Allegheny Tigers (11-1) - BYE

#8 Penn-Trafford Warriors (7-5) vs #9 Baldwin Highlanders (5-5) AT Penn-Trafford High School on Tuesday, April 15th at 7:30pm

Steady rain on Sunday and more rain in the forecast for Monday throughout Western Pennsylvania forced the WPIAL to postpone opening day in both the WPIAL baseball and softball playoffs.

ALL 21 of the First Round baseball games scheduled for Monday have been pushed back 24 hours to Tuesday with one doubleheader site change. 

In softball, there were 9 Preliminary Round or First Round games postponed on Monday. Seven of those games are now scheduled for Tuesday while two contests have been pushed back to Wednesday.

Each Wednesday during the regular season, the MSA Sports Network ranks the top ten boys volleyball teams in each classification. With the regular season now behind us and the postseason straight ahead, we extend our rankings by three in both AAA and AA to include all 13 teams that will begin to serve for gold in the 2012 WPIAL Boys Volleyball Playoffs which get underway later this week>

There will be a new champion crowned in WPIAL Class AAA baseball this season with last year's champion, Elizabeth Forward failing to qualify for the postseason this spring. However the other three defending champs, Seneca Valley in AAAA, Riverside in AA and Neshannock in A are all playoff bound and ready to defend their golden crowns. However 50 other district teams have their hearts set on a championship celebration right after Memorial Day. Here is the NEW First Round schedule in all four classifications with Tuesday changes as the Countdown to CONSOL Energy Field in Washington is bumped back a day and now begins on Tuesday, May 15th.

62 teams have earned the right to play on as the Countdown to Cal U is about to begin. Preliminary and First Round action begins next week as 12 AAAA, 18 AAA, 15 AA and 17 A teams have qualified for the second season, including defending WPIAL champions Latrobe, Yough, Burrell and Chartiers-Houston. With Monday's rainouts, here is the latest updated schedule for the 2012 WPIAL Softball Playoffs, with broadcasts exclusively here on the MSA Sports Network, sponsored in part by Carlow University.

Sewickley Academy Wins 8th Straight WPIAL Boys Team Tennis AA Title While Shady Side Academy Wins AAA Gold

Eight is definitely Great for Sewickley Academy boys tennis. The Panthers Friday celebrated their 8th consecutive WPIAL Boys Team Tennis Class AA championship with a victory over the Hampton Talbots. Sewickley Academy continued an impressive district domination of a team sport with their 16th championship in the last 18 years. Meanwhile, Shady Side Academy squeeked by defending champion Mount Lebanon to win the AAA crown. The Indians title is the second in three years and fourth in school history. Here are ALL of the results from the week long 2012 WPIAL Boys Team Tennis Playoffs.
