Week seven of the local college football season has a little of everything this week. A Thursday night game, battles for first place in the NEC, PSAC West and PAC and two local teams making a trip to Michigan to play in the Big House. 52 teams have already been sliced to 47 teams as the two week journey that will end up at Highmark Stadium in Station Square on the final day of October and the first day of November is underway in the district postseason. On Monday, the opening round begins as 16 teams in Class AAA, 16 in Class AA and 15 in Class A play for a title on the pitch as three of those teams, Peters Township, West Allegheny and Sewickley Academy look to repeat the championship they captured a year ago. The abacus is fresh and ready to go as we move closer toward the end of the WPIAL football regular season and the opening of the 2014 Highway to Heinz. While the 'Stretch Run' continues in high school football, we begin the district boys and girls soccer playoffs while preparing for the WPIAL girls volleyball playoffs this week here on the MSA Sports Network. We move into Week Eight of the 2014 season with 27 WPIAL football games on Friday and Saturday with Friday's action starting with the MSA Sports Pregame Show and concluding with the one and only WPIAL Scoreboard Show. One of the busiest high school football Saturday's in the WPIAL took place on the seventh Saturday thanks to Homecoming festivities at Ambridge, Shady Side Academy, Beaver and Burgettown high schools. Plus normal Saturday action at Summit Academy, Riverview and Western Beaver gave us plenty to choose from when 'Stretching' for the starz of the day.
