The other half of the field championships were Friday. The four-time winner in one event was Connellsville’s Madison Wiltrout as she won the Class 3A javelin with a throw of 160 feet, 9 inches. With a nearly flawless performance, the top-seeded Mars Planets dismantled the second seeded Quaker Valley Quakers by a score of 19-6 at Joe Walton Stadium at Robert Morris University Friday night to win their second consecutive WPIAL Boys 2A Lacrosse Championship. Mars looked exceptionally sharp in all phases of the game, especially in the first quarter when they outscored Quaker Valley 7-1. At one point in the first half, he had won 11 of...

The first day of the PIAA track and field championships provided only one golden moment for the WPIAL. Knoch High school senior Jordan Geist was the only athlete from the WPIAL to win a gold medal Friday at Shippensburg University. This was old hat for Geist, though, as he won the Class 3A championship for the third year in a row with a throw of 71 feet, 4 ½ inches. Half of the field events were staged Friday and preliminary races in running events also were held. The remainder of the field events and all the running finals will be Saturday.
