Beaver County Christian Falls in PIAA 2-A Finals

Eagles Lose to Northeastern York as Bobcats Win 5th State Title
Share |

Northeastern won its fifth consecutive PIAA Class AA crown with a 3-1 victory over Beaver County Christian School at Penn State University’s Rec Hall. It’s the first time that a team has won five straight state titles since Haverford won six in a row from 1966-1971. Saturday’s appearance in the state title tilt was the first ever for Beaver County Christian, a program that began in 2009.

The Bobcats of Northeastern looked as if they may run roughshod over the Eagles with a 25-13 win in set one. However, Beaver County Christian played much more competitive volleyball the rest of the way, narrowly dropping the second set, 25-22, and winning the third set, 25-21. Unfortunately for the WPIAL champions, the Eagles dug themselves too big of a hole early on and couldn’t fully recover. The fourth set was tied 10-10 before Northeastern went on a 4-0 run and cruised to a 25-20 match-clinching victory. Cole Brillhart led the Bobcats with 30 kills and added five blocks. Wyatt Tyson tallied double figures in kills with 10.

For BCC, Daniel Townsend, the WPIAL MVP in Class AA, finished with a team-best 20 kills and 14 digs. Setter Matthew Knab dished out 32 assists.

Beaver County Christian closes out the season with an overall record of 20-3. Northeastern finishes up with a 20-1 mark to go along with its state gold.
