Two years ago, MSA Sports went big game hunting to preview the top WPIAL football games that upcoming weekend. Last year, we revealed the economical Football Fourpack to get you ready for the best scholastic contests that week. Now here in 2008, like two great flavors, we combine the two so as to satisfy your desire to be as prepared as possible for the opening weekend of 2008 in the WPIAL.

THURSDAY ON MSA SPORTS

Some much needed rain throughout Western Pennsylvania washed out the Wild Things and Kings on Wednesday, thus forcing them to play two on Thursday here on the MSA Sports Network. The Washington Wild Things will now battle the Kalamazoo Kings in the second and third games of this three game series at CONSOL Energy Park in a seven inning each doubleheader here on the MSA Sports Network.

Wild Things and Kings PPD on Wednesday, Set for DH on Thursday

The game between the Washington Wild Things and the Kalamazoo Kings, scheduled for Wednesday night at CONSOL Energy Park was postponed due to rain. The teams will now play in a doubleheader Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 5:05pm.

CTK 08 - WPIAL Class AAAA Foothills Conference Preview

The Foothills Conference has a new look this season – and some of the teams are looking at a long road trip for a game. Pittsburgh Central Catholic moved out of the Foothills and into the Big East. The new teams in the conference are Gateway and McKeesport.

CTK 08 - WPIAL Class AAAA Northern Six Conference Preview

The Northern Six Conference in the WPIAL's Class AAAA has cleaned up its act quite a bit this year. There is no more loitering around the standing from District 10 neighbor Erie McDowell. But more importantly, there is no more trying to figure out in Week 9 if there will or won't be a Class AAAA wild card in the playoff picture.

CTK 08 - WPIAL Class AAAA Big East Conference Preview

If recent history is any indication, a team from the Big East Conference will make it to the WPIAL Class AAAA championship. A team from this conference has made it to the championship game nine years in a row. Those teams are Gateway, Penn Hills, Woodland Hills and Pittsburgh Central Catholic. All of those teams are still in the Big East, with the exception of Gateway, which is now in the Foothills.

CTK 08 - WPIAL Class AAAA Great Southern Conference Preview

While the South Hills has ruled the court in WPIAL Class AAAA basketball this decade, that success has not carried over to the gridiron. With the huge exception of the 2006 Upper St. Clair Panthers, which won WPIAL and PIAA football gold, postseason success in the highest classification has been few and far between in Southern Allegheny and Northern Washington counties.
