An Inside Look at the Buccaneers 2012 Girls Volleyball Team
We are proud to say that all of our starting varsity players are either high honor or advanced placement students, many of whom are taking college credit courses during their senior year this year with Pitt University.
We have five returning seniors including Tori Foster, OH/MB with 4 years of high school volleyball experience, WPIAL section 6A 3rd team in 2011, and an accomplished basketball player since 2nd grade. Tori also runs track at CH, is a varisty cheerleader and a member of numerous clubs. She intends on pursuing computer system mgt in college.
Our next returning senior is Casey Guernsey, MB with 5 years of high school volleyball and 2 years club experience, WPIAL section 6A 3rd team in 2011. Casey is involved in student government, National Honor Society treasurer and member of numerous clubs. She intends on pursuing economics and finance in college.
Lacey Levers our next returning senior and captain brings 5 years of high school volleyball and ten years of club experience, WPIAL section 6A in 2009 and 2010, All section selection in 2009 and 2010, USAVB High Performance 2010 and USAVBGN in 2010. Having her on the court as a captain this year is like having a coach out there leading the team. After a season ending ACL injury in Sept 2011, Lacey has battled back and is more impressive than ever on the court. Lacey is a member of the National Honor Society and numerous clubs at CH. Lacey recently verbally committed to Duquesne University and is excited to be a Duke volleyball player in the fall of 2013, majoring in nursing.
Piper McLaughlin our next returning senior and captain brings 5 years of high school volleyball and one year club experience. WPIAL section 6A 2nd team 2011, she also plays softball, is in band, cheerleading, NHS and various clubs. She hopes to attend WVU for petroleum and natural gas engineering.
Julie Sliman rounds out our seniors bringing 5 years of high school volleyball experience, WPIAL section 6A 3rd team 2011, she is VP of NHS, a mathlete and member of various clubs. Julie hopes to attend Kent State for accounting.
Other players to watch include sophomore Kassie Kesneck DS/MB, bringing 3 years high school vollayball experience she is also an accomplished softball player and all around good athlete. Also to watch is freshman Kylee Levers S/RS, bringing 2 years high school volleyball experience and 5 years club experience including a trip to USAVB Girls nationals in Columbus in June 2012.
Our team led by the five seniors made the playoffs in 2010 for the first time in 19 years at CH. Although eliminated in the first round it was great experience. After Lacey Levers went down with ACL injury in Sept 2011, the team of seniors and Kesneck rallied and narrowly missed a playoff berth without Levers high numbers both offensively and defensively.
With three seasons as assistant coach at CH, this is my first as head coach, assisted by Brittany Snyder a CH alum volleyball player who also played club. My philosophy for the team is based around effective communication, integrity, personal responsibility and team work. I prefer to lead the team rather than boss them. We have a great learning atmosphere with players like the Levers sisters and the seniors teaching and holding the underclassmen accountable. Its great to see the girls grow and learn from one another rather than responding to a boss in any sense of the word. I like what I see happening in our gym and I am proud to be a part of this district and this team.
